From namesake steak to innovative cuisine and ethnic fare, Omaha is packed with a notable line-up of eateries, high-end to family affordable and unpretentious. The city riverfront now has footpaths linking to the Old Market district with shops and restaurants such as The French Café, with American-French fare and emphasis on tableside presentation. Rick’s Café Boatyard, serving seafood to pizza with nightly jazz, accommodates up to 1,000 in a dining room and on a deck overlooking the Missouri River. Johnny’s Café, serving up Nebraska-fed beef for some 80 years, ranks high among Omaha’s many steakhouses. Billionaire Warren Buffett, the “Oracle of Omaha,” frequents Gorat’s, the family owned institution on Center Street known for hand-cut T-bones and New York strips with all the trimmings, along with sandwiches, seafood and daily specials. Around since 1934, Dundee Dell, west of downtown, is renowned for fish and chips, fried dill pickles, and its Great Wall of Scotch. Chains in and around Omaha range from Asian Mongolian Bar B Que and Boston Market to Godfather’s Pizza and Ruby Tuesday.
