A & W Long John Silver's
On a June scorcher in 1919, California's Roy Allen sold his first mug of frosty root beer for a nickel. Decades later, A&W - named for Allen and his pal Frank Wright - remains an icon for chilled mugs and tasty fare at 7,300 units in 15 countries.
